A couple of weeks ago, I blogged on blogging. One of the blogs we mentioned, “If Cancer were Easy, They’d Call it your Mom” is penned by our friend, OC Warrior. Soon, she will be your friend, too. OCW was twenty when diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is now fighting a stage IV battle. Not only does she deal with the personal loss that comes with a scary stage IV diagnosis, but she has lost the love of her life to cancer last year as well. Who needs a hero? Everyone.

Having cancer means dealing with some heavy duty stuff. Treatment can be both physically and emotionally ravaging. Facing mortality can have profound effects on mood, outlook and decision-making. Survivors need support from friends and family to travel this path. I cannot imagine trying to do it alone.

Meet Lola, my ten-year-old brown dog. She is also my inspiration and teacher. A cancer diagnosis can strain even the strongest of human relationships. That is when a pet comes to the rescue. Dogs are liquid love; potent medicine when hope dwindles, when you don’t feel well or when you get a little disappointed in people.
