In the last few weeks it has become apparent to me that if you get important information from a doctor, you should find a second (and maybe third, fourth) doctor immediately. Because medicine is not a right/wrong, black/white, here/there world. It is grey and fuzzy and subject to different opinions, and if you are not a doctor yourself, you cannot know and understand the info that you are given.

I was 8-years-old when my mother took me to see “Love Story.” I had seen the book on her bedside table a few months earlier. My brother just sent me a funny blog about a woman’s tips for wooing her doctor. It is a humorous little piece about not wanting your mom to ask stupid questions and not referencing all the googling you have done behind your doctor’s back. The reason this blog is funny is that it alludes to a very real and very weird dynamic that I too have felt when dealing with my doctors. So, I am not alone in this. We do, very enthusiastically, woo our doctors.
